Mayor Avi Slama: From Netanya – For Netanya: A New Chapter at City Hall

From Netanya – For Netanya: A New Chapter at City Hall
Presented by Mayor Avi Slama
19:30 Monday 11 January 2027

Please join us for an open, wide-ranging conversation with Netanya’s new mayor, Avi Slama. Mayor Slama will share his vision for Netanya, his priorities for the city, and how he plans to turn that vision into reality.

Mayor Slama is first and foremost, a Netanyati — born and educated here, and now raising his own family in Netanya. He served in the IDF Intelligence Corps., and, before entering public life, built a successful career in banking and finance. Whilst finance was his profession, Netanya increasingly became his calling and in 2018, he was elected to the Netanya City Council. Over time, he developed his own vision for the city’s future and on January 20, 2026, Avi was elected Mayor with approximately 68 percent of the vote — giving him a very clear mandate to lead the city into its next chapter.

Avi hit the ground running. In just a few short months, his administration has already begun to have a significant impact. The Mayor has placed considerable emphasis on the everyday relationship between residents and the municipality. He has spoken about changing the culture of City Hall so that residents are viewed not simply as taxpayers, but as people whom the municipality exists to serve. At the same time, revitalising central Netanya — including Independence Square — has become an important objective, along with improving the infrastructure and public spaces that shape the daily life of the city.

Much of his first year in office has unfolded against the extraordinary security challenges facing Israel. The Mayor and his administration have guided Netanya through periods of emergency — coordinating with the Home Front Command, police and emergency services; opening shelters; managing the school system and ensuring that residents receive the information and assistance they need. Mayor Slama has said that, ultimately, he wants his administration to be judged in three areas: municipal service, education and infrastructure. Following his remarks, there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.
